Scheduled Tribes(ST) population in india
The total population of Scheduled Tribes (STs) in India is about 104,545,716. This population is comprised of approximately 52,547,215 males and 51,998,501 females, resulting in a sex ratio of 990 females for every 1000 males among the ST population.
Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Odisha are the states with the highest ST population. Madhya Pradesh stands at the top with over 15 million ST individuals, followed by Maharashtra with over 10 million and Odisha with about 9.5 million.
Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Jharkhand also have a significant ST population, ranging from around 8 million to 9 million. Notably, the northeastern states, which have a high proportion of tribal population in the overall Indian context, exhibit lower ST population figures here. For instance, Assam, Manipur, and Tripura show ST populations ranging from about 1.1 million to 3.8 million.
Interestingly, several states demonstrate a higher sex ratio in favor of females in the ST population. These include Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Kerala, and Goa, all with a sex ratio of over 1000 females per 1000 males. However, other states like Rajasthan, Jammu & Kashmir, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh show a sex ratio below 950, indicating fewer females per 1000 males.
