Hinduism is the majority religion in India, accounting for nearly 80% of the population.Hindu population forms a majority in most states and union territories, with the highest concentration observed in Himachal Pradesh (95.17%). The states of Dadra & Nagar Haveli (93.93%), Odisha (93.63%), and Chhattisgarh (93.25%) also report a Hindu majority of over 90%.
On the other hand, the Hindu population appears to be less represented in states such as Arunachal Pradesh (29.04%), Jammu & Kashmir (28.44%), and Meghalaya (11.53%), where they constitute a minority. In particular, the Hindu community is negligible in Lakshadweep (2.77%) and Mizoram (2.75%), making up less than 3% of the total population.
A significant Hindu population, although not the majority, is observed in states like Manipur (41.39%) and Punjab (38.49%). In Kerala, where multiple religions have substantial representations, Hindus make up 54.73% of the total population.
In terms of absolute numbers, the largest Hindu populations are found in the populous states of Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Andhra Pradesh.
